Booker T. Washington High School Presents their Annual Grand Concert

If the words “school concert” make your flesh crawl with traumatic memories of recorders screeching out a tortured version of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” or marching bands struggling to find the same key and tempo for the works of John Philip Sousa, put those right out of your head. (Alcohol might help.) The spring Grand Concert at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts is a different species altogether. This is the school, after all, that produced Erykah Badu, Nora Jones, Edie Brickell, Roy Hargrove and a host of other talented musicians who know their ways around a treble clef.

The concert, beginning at 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, features music from Booker T.’s orchestra, ensembles and choral group. The music takes place in the school’s Montgomery Arts Theater, 2501 Flora St. Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults and available at ticketdfw.com.
